Peanut Milk

From: The Multicultural Cookbook for Students
Roten, Lindsay Grace; Webb, Lois Sinaiko.

Description: Many children around the world have never tasted a nice, cool glass of milk. There are often no (or hardly any) cows, goats, or sheep to milk in their countries, and even in some countries with available livestock, the thought of drinking milk is quite unpleasant, simply because it is not part of their culture. Such “non-milk-drinking” countries are in Africa, Asian, and some of the South and Central America. It has been discovered that even one cup of milk can cause a terrible stomachache or even send someone to the hospital. Extensive research has been done, and scientists have found lactose-deficient people are lacking in the body chemicals needed to digest milk. When a protein-rich drink is needed it is often made with peanuts.
